Many people buy a Samsung Galaxy because it is one of the first Android device with a hardware feature that is nice.
This is available since July 2009, and the quality is excellent.
Until today there is no official statement from Samsung on future firmware release.
Many wait until the new firmware for their devices based on Android 2.0
The idea behind Android devices that other manufactureres follow is to keep users up-the latest with the release of Android recently.
For example the HTC has done with the model they Dream, Magic and Hero
We, the Samsung Galaxy user-community, hope that Samsung will provide upgrades to the latest release of Android (2.0 or soon to be released 2.1) in the near future.
